The relationship between Northwestern University and the city of Evanston, Ill. has had its problems and its benefits. As one of the most known universities in the world Northwestern attracts around 2000 students each year. These students then have the businesses of Evanston at their fingertips. Although the relationship between the students and the citizens is not perfect, the restaurants, clothing stores and facilities, like the park of the beach, are essential to maintaining a healthy connection between NU and Evanston. Shown in this map are the businesses and facilities that this story package focuses on.
Downtown Evanston is home to many clothing stores. Most of them target young students as business owners have realized that their biggest audience are Northwestern University students. Levi’s Store, which offers clothing and shoes to teenagers and young adults, has been in the city for as long as most other businesses. The manager, Gustavo Miranda, talks about the reasons for which they are popular among the students. Jessica Schapiro, a student that calls herself a big fan of the clothing stores, said these might be an important element to improving the relationship between the city and the university. Lucile Krasnow, the special assistant for Community Relations at the university, agrees with this statement and talks about the special relationship that Northwestern and Evanston have developed over the years.
